Activity 10: listening tips

Taking into account the different tips given, I have created my own list, since I agree with some of them, althoug choosing only five has een a bit difficult.

1-Use pre-listening and post-listening activities.
This way the activity can take different skills, not only listening. It is a good strategy to test the learners abilities after they have listened to the text. pre and post-listening activities are a goos strategy for the learners not to think they are only ging to listen to a text and compete an exercise, which may seem abit simple and useless. As a teacher I have found myself with this problem about students complaining on that a listening exercise is not realli useful.

2- Provide examples of English as an international language.
Learners need to be in touch with the many different accents that we can find in English as well as non-native English. As learners of English as a second languge thay have to know about the different accents they can find in the real-life.

3- Find "the right stuff".
A listening exercise can be created in diferent ways, and as teachers we should take advantadge of our learnes tastes. aking them decide which song or TV serie thay want to listent to can make the activity more motivating. this helps the teacher create the activity.

4- Encourage learners to practice their listening tasks out of class.
Encouraging them to listen to music or watching their favourite TV serie or movie in English in their free time is also a good strategy for them. They can also redo the listening activity done in class.

5- Focus on the cross-cultural dimensions of listening.
Listening activities can contain lots of cultural material which can be really useful for post-listening activities. It also allows learnes to learn not only listening strategies, or how to deal with a listening exercise, but also on some new aspect of culture they did not know before, or share the knowledge they already have.
