Activity 8: New trends in using technology in the language curriculum

The first thing I want to mention about the article is what it says about translating. I completelly agree with the fact that imagery or video support is much more useful than a trasnation into the first language of the learner, specially with kids. As a teacher I have found muself in the possition of bing unable to find a proper translation in the learner L1, and drawing something or making a noise has been much more useful.

I also think that the use of new technologies is a good way of learning. Children and teens nowadays are used to use computer and surf the internet, which I think are very good tools to learn. As mentioned in the text, chatting with different culture speakers let the learners improve. Some new progmrams have been created to help learners not nly to get in touch with other learners or ntiv speakers, but also to provide them with grammar and vocaulary help.
However, I would not recomend internet learning only, since in agreement with the text, most of the learning is independent.

There is also a growing fear among teachers on using neew technologies in class, since some may not be updated. Personally, I would encourage those people to give it a try, they would see how useful it is, and they would also motivate the learners, as well as learning something themselves.

The text is a great teaching guide on new teaching methods using new technlogies for comunication. It gives tips to use these new tools as well as talking about the advantadges and disadvantadges of it. As a student I love using new technologies and as a techer I found it a good tool to change the pace of the class. It provides the teacher with new ideas and learners enjoy themselves more in class.
